Screenshot culture

Screenshot culture describes everyday habits of capturing on-screen content as images and circulating those images as proof, jokes, or personal archives. Screenshots often outlast the live posts they depict, functioning as folk Web archiving—with weaker provenance than institutional crawls.

Relation to forever themes

Viral screenshots feed the sense that the Internet never forgets, even when original URLs rot. They are fragile too: compressed reposts lose metadata, and faked screenshots complicate evidentiary use.
